This article argues that private contractors can help to alleviate the overcrowding problem within the prison system.
Abstract
Prison privatization has followed an evolutionary pathway, beginning with the provision of support operations like medical care and food services, followed later by contracting for pre- release, work release, and halfway-house facility operation. Private companies have also operated juvenile residential facilities, as well as illegal alien detention centers. Private prison owners and administrators can reduce corrections costs and provide innovation without sacrificing the quality of inmate services.
