A cooperative arrangement between the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC) and Howard Johnson's national reservation sales center provides employment opportunities for female inmates at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center.
Abstract
Under the contract, Howard Johnson's hires up to 20 inmates, paying them the same rates as other reservation agents and providing the same benefits and seniority raises. Howard Johnson's provides all supervision, equipment, and program operating expenses; while DOC provides office space. The program has given Howard Johnson's access to additional agents during peak volume periods, bad weather, or after system malfunctions. The program has increased the self-esteem and morale of participating inmates and provides them with savings and skills to begin productive employment after release.
