Abstract
Revised to reflect recent changes and developments in laws pertinent to prisoners, these expanded three volumes present articles written by some of the Nation's leading authorities on the background, development, and current status of this area of the law. Volume I presents an overview of the law of prisoners' rights and remedies, along with discussions of privacy and possessory rights of prisoners, procedural due process right, death row conditions, supervisory liability, pardon and clemency, obtaining witnesses, and challenges to the duration of confinement. Other topics considered are death penalty review and challenges to the duration of confinement for Federal prisoners. Among the issues reviewed and examined in Volume II are the rights of gay prisoners, AIDS in correctional facilities, prison riots, inmate welfare funds, jail litigation, and disenfranchisement. Other issues considered are the rights of deaf prisoners and women prisoners, the accreditation debate, restitution, prison industries, and correction privatization. Volume III contains a prison litigation status report along with prison and jail inmate statistics, probation and parole statistics, correctional and detention facility statistics, and statistics on imprisonment in four countries.
