This CD contains a number of resources and tools intended to assist organizations and individuals in planning Sexual Assault Awareness Month for April 2010.
Abstract
A document entitled "Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Spectrum of Prevention" presents a model that places public health problems (including sexual violence) within a larger context beyond individual behaviors. It highlights community and societal factors that influence the issue. The "Spectrum" is a tool that allows planners to think strategically about the primary prevention of sexual violence. The CD also contains a list of resources categorized by the following 10 topics: primary prevention on campus, campus policy information, statistics, training tools and resources, public education materials, alcohol use and sexual violence, resources for administrators, resources for student activities, resources for law enforcement, and general campus resources. Other tools and resources provided include information on strengthening individual knowledge and skills, the promotion of community education, the creation of an effective public education campaign, the education of providers, the fostering of coalitions and networks, and changing organizational practices. Also discussed are strategies for influencing policies and legislation. Case studies are provided as well.
