Annotation

This paper reports on the methodology and findings of two national surveys conducted to determine the number of child protection multidisciplinary teams in the 50 States and their general functions and policies.

Abstract

In the spring of 1983, a questionnaire was sent to appropriate agencies in each of the 50 States to determine the number of functioning teams, the models represented, if they are mandated by law, type of authorization, State coordination and involvement in orientation and/or evaluation of multidisciplinary teams, the use of confidentiality waivers, funding type, and future plans. A 100-percent response rate was obtained. From the spring of 1983 to the spring of 1984, 150 team questionnaires were mailed, with 89 returned. These questionnaires solicited information on main team function, length of team existence, disciplines represented and their influence, team-meeting characteristics, funding, orientation and evaluation, and leadership issues. Findings indicate that teams exist in all 50 States, with the majority providing case consultation. 8 tables, 14 references.
