This guide explains the preparation that an applicant should consider before taking the selection interview to become a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
Abstract
This RCMP guide details what an applicant can expect from the 2-3 hour selection interview for sworn membership in the RCMP. Each applicant will be required to answer “yes” to the five Essential Job Requirement questions; a “no” answer amounts to automatic disqualification. These five questions involve possession of a drivers license; willingness to be posted anywhere in Canada; willingness to work shift work, weekends, and holidays; being prepared to carry and use a firearm and use physical force; and willing to pledge allegiance to Canada. The RCMP interview measures continuous learning orientation, integrity and honesty, interpersonal skills, service orientation, personal effectiveness and flexibility, thinking skills, leadership and oral communication. A section on how to prepare for the interview addresses how to respond to probing questions, especially on job experience which can be a formidable query for young adults who often lack job and life experiences. There are numerous tips, suggestions and recommendations for applicants on how to prepare and conduct themselves during this stressful interview, including general tips on how to approach the interview. The guide contains suggested reading of books and Internet sites that can be very helpful to aspiring candidates for RCMP membership and service.
