Abstract
THE AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE TOOK HIS INFORMATION FROM NEWS REPORTS OVER A FIVE YEAR PERIOD. INJURY INCIDENTS OCCURRED IN 64 PERCENT OF THE CASES WHEN THE DEMANDS WERE DENIED, HE FOUND. THEY OCCURRED IN 7 PERCENT OF THE CASES WHEN THE DEMANDS WERE FULLY MET. INFORMATION IS INCLUDED ON A COUPLE OF OTHER HOSTAGE SITUATIONS. IN 100 PERCENT OF THE INCIDENTS, WHEN TRAINED NEGOTIATORS WERE USED, NO HOSTAGES WERE HARMED. ALSO, THE AUTHOR FOUND THAT THE PROBABILITY OF HARM WHEN DEMANDS ARE DENIED INCREASES WITH TERRORISTS AND DECREASES WITH NON-TERRORISTS....BS
