This study investigated variables derived from initial inmate evaluations at a state penitentiary as predictors of inmate success in a behavioral ladder program.
Abstract
The predictive variables included interview observation ratings, academic test scores and personality test scores. The criteria for success in the behavioral ladder program included factors such as attitudes, work habits and overall success level. The academic test variables were found to be the best predictors of the outcome variables as a set. Personality variables related to defensiveness and personal insight and one interview observation variable, attractiveness, were found to be predictive of success by discriminating between inmates grouped according to high, moderate or low success in the behavioral ladder program.
