This discussion of preemployment selection methods for entry-level private security personnel addresses legal issues, interviews, background investigations, use of the polygraph, testing, physical examinations, and assessment centers.
Abstract
A review of legal issues in preemployment screening notes the necessity of deriving screening criteria from a job task analysis. Functions of the employment application are specified along with its content, and the limitations of and techniques for improving the employment interview are discussed. An analysis of background investigations looks at problems in such investigations, investigative techniques, and fingerprints. Also considered are the validity of employment tests, the value of preemployment psychological tests to assess emotional stability, and the functions of physical examinations and assessment centers in preemployment screening for security personnel. 47-item bibliography.
