This study examines how the police are organized internally to provide service dealing specifically with domestic violence incidents.
Abstract
Police organization determines the extent to which forces can provide efficient and effective service to deal with domestic violence. In addition to analyzing police organizational models, the study examined whether forces had specialist domestic violence officers (DVOs), the scope of their role and their position within the force. Additional factors such as how performance was monitored and how information was passed from front-line officers to specialist DVOs were also identified as influential in determining both the nature of the response provided and the day-to-day work of the DVO. The report includes information on police policies regarding domestic violence, information management and training, and recommendations. Figures, tables, note, references
