ANALYSIS OF PROCEDURAL SAFEGUARDS AT POLICE INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS AS PROPOSED BY POLICEMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS.
Abstract
BECAUSE THE PROCEEDINGS ARE INVESTIGATORY RATHER THAN CRIMINAL IN NATURE, OFFICERS DO NOT, AND SHOULD NOT, HAVE THE RIGHT AGAINST SELF-INCRIMINATION, TO COUNSEL, TO REFUSE TO TAKE A LIE-DETECTOR TEST, AND TO A MIRANDA WARNING. GRANTING THESE RIGHTS WOULD IMPAIR EFFICIENT INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS.
