Abstract
A REVIEW OF EXISTING LITERATURE PRECEDES DISCUSSION OF HOW COMMUNITY RELATIONS RELATES TO THE JUDICIAL, POLICE, AND CORRECTIONS COMPONENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. SEVERAL ARTICLES EXAMINE THE CURRENT STATE OF THE ART AND THE RELATION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE TO THE MASS MEDIA. OTHERS APPROACH COMMUNITY RELATIONS FROM A SOCIAL SCIENCE PERSPECTIVE, LOOKING INTO SUCH TOPICS AS CROSS CULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS, COMMUNITY DYNAMICS, COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS, AND THE YOUTH OFFENDER. THE COMMUNITY OF THE FUTURE AND THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION ARE DISCUSSED, AS WELL AS EXAMPLES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS PROGRAMMING. AN EXAMPLE OF A HOUSEHOLD OPINION AND ATTITUDE SURVEY CONDUCTED TO POLL CITIZEN PERCEPTIONS OF POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND TABLES OF THE DATA COLLECTED ARE INCLUDED.
