THE NEED FOR MODERN AND ADEQUATE POLICE FACILITIES IN EVEN THE SMALLEST COMMUNITIES IS EMPHASIZED, AND THE MANNER IN WHICH THE SMALL CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY OF LOS BANOS PROVIDED SUCH FACILITIES IS DETAILED.
Abstract
A DESCRIPTION OF THE LOS BANOS COMMUNITY AND THE PREVIOUS POLICE FACILITIES IN LOS BANOS IS PRESENTED. IT IS STATED THAT THE FORMER ARCHAIC AND INADEQUATE POLICE FACILITY LED TO A LACK OF COMMUNITY PRIDE, WHICH IN TURN CONTRIBUTED TO A LACK OF COMMUNITY INTEREST IN POLICE MATTERS. THE ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN BY THE POLICE CHIEF TO ARRANGE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW POLICE CENTER ARE THEN DESCRIBED. FUNDING WAS OBTAINED THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PUBLIC SAFETY JOINT POWERS AUTHORITY WHICH SOLD BONDS TO COVER CONSTRUCTION COSTS. THE NEW BUILDING IS DESCRIBED, AND THE ADVANTAGES OF IMPROVED POLICE FUNCTIONING AND INCREASED COMMUNITY SUPPORT ARE OUTLINED.
