THIS OFFICE, LOCATED WITHIN THE DIRECTORATE OF THE FRENCH CRIMINAL POLICE IN PARIS, SERVES A PREVENTIVE FUNCTION BY HANDLING CASES NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR THE JUVENILE COURTS BUT REGARDED AS INDICATIVE OF PREDELINQUENCY.
Abstract
A JUVENILE REGARDED AS BEING IN A STATE OF PREDELINQUENCY IS ONE WHO HAS FOLLOWED A BEHAVIOR PATTERN INDICATING THAT HE CAN PROBABLY BE EXPECTED TO BECOME A JUVENILE DELINQUENT IF NOTHING HAPPENS TO CHANGE THAT PATTERN. THIS OFFICE TRIES TO REDEEM PREDELINQUENTS BEFORE THEY REACH THE JUVENILE DELINQUENT STAGE BY COUNSELING THEM AND HELPING THEM OUT IN VARIOUS WAYS. THE OFFICE ALSO INTERVENES, IF THE SITUATION CALLS FOR IT, IN THE JUVENILE'S HOME OR AT HIS PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE JUVENILE RELATIONS WITH HIS FAMILY OR EMPLOYER. OTHER ASSISTANCE RENDERED INCLUDES HELPING JUVENILES GET JOBS OR SOMEWHERE TO LIVE, ETC. STATISTICS ON THE CASES HANDLED BY THIS OFFICE FROM 1968 THROUGH 1974 ARE PROVIDED. --IN FRENCH
