Abstract
Chapters are devoted to adaptive management, management theory, organizational environment, and the structure of the police organization. They discuss managerial functions, police executive leadership, police personnel management, and information management -- the police records and communications systems. Patrol, supporting line elements (detective function, traffic management, delinquency and crime prevention), human factors, and objective management are reviewed. Concluding chapters focus on the measurement of police productivity and planned change. Figures, tables, footnotes, and about 320 references are supplied.
