Social changes have revised the conditions for police work in West Germany and consequently for police management.
Abstract
Social changes have contributed to increased crime in West Germany. In addressing this circumstance, police managers must consider whether the internal police organization, including the structure for personnel training, is appropriate for producing the desired results. The crime situation is not likely to abate until the year 2000. Police must expect further changes and be prepared to cope with them through strategy, tactics, organization, equipment, and personnel. The abilities and the performance of police managers will be important in determining how crime is to be addressed in the future. (Author abstract modified)
