Police Executive Development Institute (POLEX) - Evaluation Report

NCJ Number

Annotation
The report evaluates one POLEX course, offered in Pennsylvania during 1979, to test the usefulness of the Action Plan Follow-up Approach as a tool for evaluating police management training programs.
Abstract
Trainees left the course with intentions (action plans) to use what they learned and tried to put these intentions into practice. They attempted new behaviors, such as revising departmental written communications and case reporting forms and procedures. Most trainees thought these new behaviors were positive whether or not they succeeded in implementing them, and many planned new behaviors. Trainees were generally satisfied with the course and its instructors. Several recommended that the course be lengthened. The report is divided into 18 sections corresponding to each of the evaluation questions asked. Graphs illustrate the followup data to each question. Appendixes present matrices containing followup results for each trainee and the course syllabus. For related reports, see NCJ 84175-76 and 84179.
