A Police Research and Development Council was appointed by the Indian Government to identify police needs and problems, particularly regarding equipment.
Abstract
Recommendations made in this area took into consideration the country's resource limitations, so that most equipment requirements can be met by indigenous Indian industries, without recourse to expensive foreign imports. Equipment recommendations were made for various types of police work, including crime control, traffic control, and crowd and riot control. Police tools for specialized services, such as VIP security, skyjacking, insurgency, and river squads are also recommended. A total of 15 recommendations are also given.
