This manual presents guidelines and procedures for the management, training, and operations of New York City's Auxiliary Police.
Abstract
The purpose of the Auxiliary Police is to train volunteers in police work that will enable them to mobilize in the event of a Civil Defense emergency and act as an effective adjunct to the regular force. The volunteer program will also serve the Police Department in its community relations program, which is designed to foster cooperation between police and communities in the interest of crime prevention and control. The Auxiliary Police is a quasi-military force whose members are supervised by officers of the regular police force and superiors within the Auxiliary Police. After describing the authority and purpose of the Auxiliary Police, this manual describes its organization and procedures in personnel administration. Other chapters specify procedures, content, and principles of general regulations, uniforms and equipment, precinct and patrol duties, the use of departmental vehicles, disciplinary procedures, training, and radios.
