The roots of the nature of the relationship between American police and community are traced to a tripartite tradition.
Abstract
The first source is the Bill of Rights with its basis in the continental Enlightenment. The second is the Peelian model with its concern for moral and democratic principles. Finally, there is the English police tradition with its emphasis on the service role. (Publisher abstract)
