A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONS OF THE CHATTANOOGA POLICE FIREARMS TRAINING COURSE WHICH EMPHASIZES TRAINING UNDER TYPICAL ON-DUTY CONDITIONS OF POOR LIGHT, ADVERSE WEATHER, AND STRESS.
Abstract
THE EIGHT HOURS OF CLASSROOM WORK INCLUDES NOMENCLATURE, AMMUNITION, ACCESSORIES, SHOOTING STRAIGHT AHEAD WITH BOTH EYES OPEN, ALL DOUBLE ACTION (SINGLE ACTION WAS NOT MENTIONED), COMBAT GRIP, ONE AND TWO HAND GRIP, TRIGGER SQUEEZE, DRAWING WITH TRIGGER FINGER ALONGSIDE THE FRAME INSTEAD OF IN THE TRIGGER GUARD, AND PRACTICING ALL THE ABOVE IN DRY FIRE EXERCISES. THINGS NOT MENTIONED OR TAUGHT WERE SIGHTS AND SIGHT ALIGNMENT, BREATH CONTROL, STRICT PROPER POSITIONS, SINGLE ACTION, BARRICADE SHOOTING AND SCORING OF TARGETS. IT IS NOTED THAT USING THIS TRAINING PROGRAM, RECRUITS HAVE ALL QUALIFIED WITH MORE THAN THE MINIMUM SCORE FOR QUALIFICATION, AND POLICE HAVE IMPROVED THEIR PERFORMANCE IN ON-DUTY SHOOTING INCIDENTS.
