This document describes a program created by the Santa Monica Police Department (California) to address the problem of police officer illness and injury caused by neglect of personal physical fitness.
Abstract
The guide explains the special need for police officers to remain physically fit and discusses heart and back trouble (the leading causes of police officer early retirement) and their relationship to physical exercise. The exercise program itself, which was examined by physicians and athletic coaches, has been found to be one that any member of a police department, regardless of age or sex, should be able to complete satisfactorily. A scoring chart is provided.
