Abstract
Protection is afforded by a new type of delay system called an Interior Activated Barrier (IAB). The activated barrier is deployed in tandem with conventional hardline barriers. Delay is a key element in the defense of fixed installations. It allows time to coordinate and orderly execute policies and procedures such as moving personnel, destroying classified material, alerting outside security forces, and executing evacuations. Delay time is difficult to provide by merely improving fixed barriers or enlarging the protective force. The effectiveness of a physical protection system can be significantly enhanced by the inclusion of a properly designed and installed interior activated barrier. Development of these technologies has made additional components available to the physical security system designer for a wide variety of applications. 4 figures, 2 references (Author abstract modified)
