THIS STUDY COMPARES THE ATTITUDES BETWEEN TWO GROUPS OF DELINQUENTS AND A CONTROL GROUP OF NON-DELINQUENTS TOWARD THEIR MOTHERS AND FATHERS.
Abstract
IT WAS HYPOTHESIZED THAT PSYCHOPATHIC DELINQUENTS WOULD HAVE MORE NEGATIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD THEIR PARENTS THAN SUBCULTURAL DELINQUENTS, WHO WOULD HAVE MORE NEGATIVE ATTITUDES THAN NON-DELINQUENTS. THIS HYPOTHESIS WAS PARTIALLY SUPPORTED. DELINQUENTS HAD A MORE NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEIR FATHERS THAN NONDELINQUENTS, WHEREAS ATTITUDES TOWARDS THEIR MOTHERS WERE SIMILAR. IT WAS IN ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE MOTHER THAT SEPARATED THE PSYCHOPATHIC FROM THE SUBCULTURAL DELINQUENTS, WITH THE SUBCULTURAL GROUP HAVING THE BETTER ATTITUDE.
