Abstract
The concern of researchers has been focused on the quantity, frequency, and context of teenage drinking. Less attention has been given to parents and peers as socializing agents for alcohol use. When parents and teenage friends are included in research, the impact of these important referent others has not been systematically examined within a theoretical framework. This paper raises a number of questions about the role of parents and peers in adolescent drinking. Also discussed are implications for research and awareness programs. 2 figures, 90 references.
