This manual presents guidelines for use in a 16-session program designed for young females aged 12-24 years who have been exposed to domestic assault.
Abstract
The program operates from a feminist perspective, in which all emotional, physical, and sexual abuse represent deliberate attempts by males to achieve power and control. The program aims to assist young women in the development of personal safety and protection plans; provide information regarding the causes and effects of violence against women, legal rights and processes, and community resources; offer individual and group counseling aimed at helping young women reclaim power and control in their personal lives; help young women end their isolation; and form links with other community groups serving women. Each of the 16 sessions requires 60-90 minutes of delivery time. The discussion of each session includes an outline, list of materials required, specific learning goals, exercises, and instructions for the co-facilitators.
