Abstract
Witnesses represented the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division; Drug Enforcement Administration; Federal Bureau of Investigation; and municipal police departments. The testimony and exhibits focused on the use of violence by organized crime syndicates to gain control of businesses, organizations, and geographical areas. The hearings were aimed at publicizing the violent nature of organized crime and determining the need for legislation to provide additional law enforcement tools to combat organized crime.
