Organized crime in the United Kingdom has increased significantly and, although a long way from reaching the proportions of that experienced in the United States, it is following a similar pattern.
Abstract
All parts of the UK are affected by organized crime, although there is little in the way of rigidly disciplined, structured groups, and no systematic corruption of police, judiciary, or the legal profession. Professional criminals come together in the UK to achieve a single purpose, then break up and join other criminal groups. Organized crime has plenty of money to buy into any business opportunity and operate below cost to take trade away from legitimate competitors. This causes the public to lose respect for police and government and encourages aspiring criminals. A good national crime intelligence unit may enable the country to combat the problem in a unified way.
