Abstract
WHILE NOT SPECIFICALLY DISCUSSING POLICE ORGANIZATION, THE AUTHOR'S COMMENTS PROVIDE AN ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORK AGAINST WHICH TO CONSIDER POSSIBLE POLICE FUTURES. THE ARTICLE OUTLINES THE NEW ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM WHICH HE CLAIMS WILL SUPPLANT BUREAUCRACY. THIS NEW SYSTEM IS CHARACTERIZED BY INCREASING INTERNAL REORGANIZATIONS, THE USE OF TEMPORARY PROJECTS OR TASK FORCES TO SOLVE ONE TIME ISSUES, INCREASED MOBILITY OF PERSONNEL, AND THE LOSS OF STRICT ORGANIZATIONAL HIERARCHIES. ALL THIS WILL CONTRAST SHARPLY TO BUREAUCRACIES, WHICH WERE CHARACTERIZED BY PERMANENCE, HIERARCHY, AND A DIVISION OF LABOR.
