REVIEW OF VARIOUS METHODS OF SYSTEMS ANALYSIS WITH A CONSIDERATION OF THE POSSIBLE VALUE OF APPLYING THEM TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS ON THE PLACE OF OPERATIONAL RESEARCH IN THE SYSTEM OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE ARE EXAMINED. THE VARIOUS TYPES OF OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS ARE DEFINED AND DISCUSSED, AND THEIR ROLES IN CRIMINOLOGY DELINEATED. THE SECOND PART OF THE REPORT FOCUSES ON THE USES OF OPERATIONAL ANALYSIS WHEN APPLIED TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. THESE USES INCLUDE FORECASTING FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANNING, COST EVALUATION FOR THE OPTIMISATION OF CHOICES, AND DEFINITION OF THE IMAGE-MAKING PROCESS TO SET THE GUIDELINES FOR REFORM.
