This issue of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention newsletter highlights articles on youth risk for violent victimization and homicide and current opportunities to transform the juvenile justice system, a note from the OJJDP Administrator, justice and equity efforts for LGBTQ2S+ youth, the maintenance of Tribal Youth Healing to Wellness Courts, and other news articles.

Abstract

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention monthly newsletter provides updates and current affairs awareness for OJJDP happenings and initiatives. This June 2024 issue features an article on the growth of youth risk for violent victimization and homicide, based on crime trends; news of JJDPA’s 50th Anniversary initiative to transform the juvenile justice system; and a “From the Administrator’s Desk” article by Liz Ryan on successful reentry programs that connect youth to their communities after release from incarceration. The “From the Field” article describes efforts to seek justice and equity for LGBTQ2S+ youth, in recognition of Pride Month. The “Tribal Connections” feature describes efforts to implement and sustain Tribal youth healing to wellness courts. The “News in Brief” section features a literature review on community-based and residential alternatives to youth detention, interactive video demonstrations of the dangers of financial sextortion, efforts to help youth cope with the impacts and “collateral consequences” of juvenile records, and successful strategies for reducing youth violence.
