Abstract
Sixty-seven persons attended. Participants identified several areas as being most crucial: (1) information system development and baseline criminal history information, (2) developing linkages between parts of the criminal justice system and reviewing system changes, (3) program evaluation, (4) correctional institutional management, and (5) education regarding research and evaluation. Participants agreed on the need for improved information on offenders' criminal histories, criminal activity, criminal justice system processing, and offender populations. A systems approach is greatly desired, with much more uniformity of definitions so that program activities might be more readily compared. Participants are also concerned about determining what information different parts of the criminal justice system can exchange, evaluation of both institutional and community corrections programs, and measures that help criminal justice organizations operate more effectively.
