Annotation
The materials presented in this training curriculum are designed to increase law enforcement agencies' participation in offender reentry through the provision of information, the sharing of effective practices of law enforcement involvement in prisoner reentry, and the development of public-safety partnerships, so as to reduce recidivism by returning prisoners and increase officer safety.
Abstract
The curriculum consists of eight modules that address the introduction of offender reentry, policing and offender reentry, offender reentry strategies for law enforcement, from theory to practice, stakeholder assessment and partnerships, assessing impact, educating the public/managing the media, and closing exercises. For each module, a trainer's guide assists instructors in presenting the material and guiding participants. Instruction to the trainer addresses what to say, how to convey offender reentry concepts, and the materials and supplies needed for each module. Also included in this manual is a participant's "guide template," which includes information, activity worksheets, and resources on offender reentry that may be useful to participants during and after the training. The template is designed to enable the trainer to tailor the material to the region or locale in which the training is conducted. A section with additional training materials contains a sample training agenda, a sample training evaluation form, and a list of resources and references.
