This 35th Annual Report of the New Zealand Prisoners Aid and Rehabilitation Society (NZPARS) presents program statistics and describes program activities for the year ending March 31, 1994.
Abstract
NZPARS' mission is "to contribute to a reduction of offending by providing opportunities for the social reintegration of offenders and support to the families of offenders." The services provided by NZPARS are programs in prisons and the community, visits to inmates and their families, support and advice, and practical assistance such as transport or accommodation. The primary purpose of the work is to reduce reoffending by working within the prisons and with inmate families. NZPARS has been reviewing the work of its local societies in an effort to improve management systems at all levels. The society has provided advocacy on a number of issues during the year. Society representatives met with the Minister of Education to discuss the eligibility of ex-inmates for the Training Opportunities Program and with the Minister of Inland Revenue to request NZPARS input into any review of child support legislation. Local society statistics from April 1993 through March 1994 address the number of visits to new inmates, other visits, volunteer prison visits, community contacts, family visits, aid requests, aid given, accommodation requests, accommodations given, parole requests, parole given, and court volunteer hours. A financial statement is also included.
