According to statistics compiled by the Great Britain Home Office, 4.9 million notifiable offenses were recorded between July 1990 and June 1991, representing an 18-percent increase over the previous 12 months; the annual average increase over the past 10 years was 6 percent.
Abstract
Of the notifiable offenses, 94 percent were property crimes, and 5 percent were personal offenses. The 5-percent increase in violent crime was small compared to the 10- percent average increase over the previous 3 years. The data revealed that car crimes accounted for more than one-third of the overall increase of 756,000 offenses; car crimes and burglaries accounted for more than half of all recorded crimes.
