This report describes the role and duties of the Judicial Standards Commission, which reviews complaints concerning judges' qualifications or conduct, and the commission's workload in 1979 and its activities from 1973-79.
Abstract
The Commission can initiate formal proceedings, conduct hearings, and recommend disciplinary action to the North Carolina Supreme Court or Court of Appeals. It can neither censure nor remove. As in previous years, most inquiries were terminated after initial review. Two tables are included, and appendixes present a list of past and present commission members, supreme court opinions concerning commission recommendations, and additional data.
