Details are provided on the work of the National Juvenile Justice Program Collaboration (NJJPC) in coordinating the development of local programs for juvenile status offenders.
Abstract
The NJJPC consists of 20 national voluntary organizations with local affiliates whose programs contain some aspect of work with youth. The overall goal of the NJJPC was to develop the capacity of the constituent organizations and their local affiliates to serve status offenders and other youth at risk of institutionalization, as well as to develop, through collaboration, community-based services for such youth. Subgoals are to (1) develop local collaborations that will have administrative autonomy and independent financing through local funding, (2) replicate the collaborative model in other than the five pilot areas, (3) develop a closer working relationship between the public and the private voluntary sectors, and (4) form and maintain national and local community advocacy programs to support and seek acceptance of the provisions of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act and its amendments. Objectives under each of these subgoals are presented, and action steps under each strategy to reach the objectives are described, with the extent of completion of each step indicated. Evaluation design and instruments are also described. Appendixes to the final report are listed.
