This report summarizes statistics on felony processing in New York State during the period between January and March 1992.
Abstract
There were over 50,400 felony arrests in New York State during the reporting period, an increase of 1 percent over the same period in 1991, but a decrease of 6 percent from the first 3 months of 1990. Felony drug arrests fell by 2 percent from the first quarter of 1991 and 10 percent from 1990. In terms of felony indictments, there were 18,613 during the reporting period, an increase of 1 percent from 1991. Felony drug indictments were 5 percent below 1991 figures and 12 percent below 1990 figures. Convictions resulting from all felony indictments fell by 2 percent from the previous year, as did felony drug convictions. State prison sentences for all convicted felons dropped 6 percent in the first 6 months of 1992, while State prison sentences for drug convictions fell by 7 percent.
