METHOD OF MAKING AND COMPARING TRACINGS OF SLIGHT ELEVATIONS AND RIDGES LOCATED ON THE HARD PALATE, RUGAE PATTERNS, FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES.
Abstract
THIS DENTAL TECHNIQUE IS DESIGNED TO AID IN THE IDENTIFICATION OF PERSONS WITH MISSING OR NO TEETH. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOT CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE THAT INDIVIDUAL RUGAE PATTERNS ARE UNIQUE, THIS TECHNIQUE COULD BE USED IN CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE THERE ARE LIMITED IDENTIFICATION POSSIBILITIES. THE TECHNIQUE INVOLVES THE TAKING OF PALATAL CASTS WITH DENTAL HYDROCOLLOID AND PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPARISON OF SPECIMENS. SEVERAL TESTS OF THE TECHNIQUE PROVED THAT BOTH DENTISTS AND NON-DENTISTS WERE ABLE TO USE IT WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF ACCURACY.
