This report presents data on crimes reported to or detected by New South Wales (Australia) police from January 2002 to December 2004.
Abstract
The first section is an overview of major trends in recorded criminal incidents over the 2-year period. Figures show trends in selected offenses as well as summary points that indicate which trends are statistically significant. The second section presents the monthly numbers of recorded criminal incidents for all categories of offenses, and the third section presents monthly statistics for alleged offenders processed by the type of process. The fourth section presents the numbers and percentages of cleared criminal cases for selected types of offenses for 2002, 2003, and 2004. The concluding section contains 35 tables, 1 for each major offense category. Each table presents the numbers and rates of recorded criminal incidents for January to December 2002, 2003, and 2004, for each of New South Wales' Statistical Divisions and for each Statistical Subdivision in Sydney. The overview of the report indicates that none of the 16 major offense categories are trending upwards. In the 2 years to December 2004, nine offense categories showed significant downward trends: robbery without a weapon, robbery with a weapon not a firearm, break and enter-dwelling, break and enter-nondwelling, motor vehicle theft, theft from a motor vehicle, theft from a retail store, theft from a dwelling, and theft from a person. Property crime in general has continued the downward trend observed over the past 3 years. Extensive tables and figures and appended supplementary information
