This report describes changing residential and social care for drug users.
Abstract
The report examines the state-of- the-art in diversification from traditional patterns of care for drug users. Residential rehabilitation services remain at the core of community care for drug users. The report describes innovation and diversity in housing and placement schemes, in aftercare and in prison throughcare. It examines crisis intervention, home support schemes, structured day programs, foster and access schemes. In addition, it reviews work with a younger client group, with stimulant users, offenders, women and families, those from minority ethnic groups and others less well cared for by traditional services. The report’s seven chapters, with case studies, review: (1) diversification in residential care; (2) housing, community support and placement schemes; (3) trends within residential care; (4) skills for the wider world; (5) targeting marginalized client groups; (6) specialist residential and social care; and (7) aftercare services.
