Maharishi's Integrated System of Rehabilitation, which includes Transcendental Meditation (TM), can provide an unique and effective approach to offender rehabilitation. Studies have documented the positive changes in mind, body, and behavior of participating inmates and correctional staff.
Abstract
The Integrated System of Rehabilitation provides a means of correcting the inner balance of an offender. The TM technique recognizes that an individual must be willing to participate; while correctional education may posit that long-term changes in an individual cannot be forced, the system's reliance on punishment ignores that reality. The Integrated System of Rehabilitation can be best understood in terms of correctional education's social education, which emphasizes the value of the individual. Results of nine interventions in adult correctional facilities are presented, demonstrating that the TM technique is compatible with existing programs and has additional significance for social rehabilitation because it operates on the level of individual consciousness. 2 tables and 59 references (Author abstract modified)
