The Nebraska Crime Commission conducted a comprehensive needs assessment of victims' services in the State to ascertain the services currently available, the degree to which services met victims' needs, and any gaps in existing service provision.
Abstract
The Commission began to develop a victims' services needs assessment instrument in March 1994, based on existing literature, survey instruments, statistical data, and other assessment tools. The resulting Victims Services Needs Assessment instrument, which will be tested by an independent entity, consists of three components which can be used on a Statewide, regional, or local level. These components include a victimization survey, to be completed by 3,500 randomly selected Nebraskans; an inventory of victim assistance programs in the State, to be completed by victim assistance agency personnel; and a victim assistance client survey, to be completed by 700 crime victims who received assistance from agencies in the State.
