This 1980 annual report describes the Nebraska Crime Commission's organization, its long-term and newly assigned responsibilities, and the commission's distribution of and the commission's distribution of Federal funds.
Abstract
Commission activities during 1980 included publishing several research reports dealing with crime and criminal justice statistics and preparing the data and statistical portion of the statewide crime analysis for 1980 and the State criminal justice plan. The Training Center conducted six basic law enforcement training schools for 192 officers. Sixteen criminal records audits were conducted for law enforcement agencies, courts, county attorneys' offices, and state agencies, and the commission achieved a participation rate for the Nebraska Uniform Crime Reporting Program of 83 percent of the agencies. Other commission responsibilities fulfilled were maintaining the Nebraska criminal justice film library, providing continuing education for county attorneys and their deputies and sheriffs, funding law enforcement agencies located on Indian reservations, and appropriating Federal funds to support projects in juvenile justice, law enforcement, systems development, the courts, and corrections. Tabular and graphic data cover citizen opinions about the major cause of crime, 1979 Uniform Crime Reports crime patterns for Nebraska, crime trends in Nebraska for 1971-79, crime distribution by area, distribution by offense and reporting, and citizens' attitudes about crime.
