This report briefly describes Wave II of the National Youth survey, which interviewed youths and their parents or legal guardians in early 1978 about events and behavior which occurred in 1977. Also presented are the codebook, interview schedule, and a copy of the tape of data files.
Abstract
Wave I was conducted in 1976. Wave II was jointly funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Because of the funding arrangement, the interview schedules used in Wave I and Wave II are slightly different; e.g., there are differences in the ''drug use' section. Data were collected on respondents' socioeconomic status, disruptive events in the home, neighborhood problems, parental aspirations for youth, labeling, integration of family and peer contexts, attitudes toward deviance in adults and juveniles, parental discipline, and community involvement. Data are in 1 file, which has a logical record length of 80 characters. There are 963 variables.
