THE AUTHOR STRESSES THE NEED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NEW DISCOVERIES IN VARIOUS FIELDS IN ORDER TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF CRIME IN TODAY'S SOCIETY.
Abstract
HE FEELS THAT WE CAN FIND A BETTER ANSWER TO THE CRIME PROBLEM IF WE WILL MAKE USE OF THE SCIENCE OF HUMAN BEHAVIOR AS FOUND IN BEHAVIORAL GENETICS, PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY, LEARNING THEORY, ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY, AND URBAN DESIGN. WE MUST BE WILLING TO ACCEPT NEW IDEAS AND NEW QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE NATURE OF CRIME, AND TO GIVE A NEW ROLE TO INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH WITHIN THE FIELD OF CRIMINOLOGY. THE ULTIMATE GOAL MUST BE TO PREVENT CRIME BEFORE IT OCCURS, RATHER THAN PUNISHING OR REFORMING THE INDIVIDUAL ONCE HE HAS BECOME A CRIMINAL. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
