This codebook presents the questionnaire, variables, and coding information for the data set resulting from the survey of public defense agencies conducted from 1974 through 1976 as part of the National Manpower Survey.
Abstract
The introduction describes the study and discusses data standards as well as codebook information. The overall study, which included 11 separate surveys, assessed the adequacy of current criminal justice and law enforcement training programs, projected future training needs, and established need priorities for future training and assistance programs to be funded by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. The survey was conducted in all public defense agencies listed in the Directory of Criminal Justice Agencies published by the Bureau of the Census. The data set includes 252 cases, which is 47.5 percent of the agencies listed in the directory. The codebook describes the variables and the data format. The appendix presents code values for the 'major obstacle' survey question and the list of code values for the States.
