In addition to providing the variable description list and codebook for the 1972-75 National Crime Surveys (NCS's) of cities, this report describes sampling, weighting, data collection, pretesting, file structure, information processing, codebook information, and various calculations.
Abstract

The NCS obtains data on personal and household victimization for six selected crimes. The research design consists of a survey of households in the Nation as a whole and in certain major U.S. cities. This report pertains to the cities sample. Appendixes contain the questionnaire and tables for 8 'impact' cities, the 5 'largest' cities, and for 13 cities. The glossary defines NCS variables.
