Abstract
THIS DOCUMENT RESPONDS TO A REPORT WRITTEN BY THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE ENTITLED 'THE CHALLENGE OF CRIME IN A FREE SOCIETY.' NCCD HAS IDENTIFIED URGENT PRIORITIES IN THE AREAS OF POLICE WORK, THE COURTS, CORRECTIONS, ORGANIZED CRIME, NARCOTICS AND DRUG ABUSE, DRUNKENNESS OFFENSES, CONTROL OF FIREARMS, RESEARCH, SCIENCE, AND TECHNOLOGY. THE GENERAL CATEGORIES OF CRIME IN AMERICA AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND YOUTH CRIME ARE ALSO CONSIDERED. SPECIFIC PROBLEMS ARE ENUMERATED FOR EACH CATEGORY; GOALS AND CORRESPONDING RECOMMENDED ACTIONS ARE LISTED. MANY OF THE GOALS CALL FOR A BETTER DEFINITION OF THE PROBLEM PLUS COORDINATION AND STANDARDIZATION OF EFFORTS AND PROCEDURES DESIGNED TO COUNTERACT CRIME PROBLEMS. (DAG)
