This manual for the Ninth National Symposium on Child Sexual Abuse contains the agenda, brief workshop descriptions, and selected papers presented in the course of the symposium.
Abstract
The topics addressed are listed for the various sessions. Information on each workshop includes the speaker, a brief description of the topic, the target audience, and the content level. Papers presented in the various sessions are listed under the following topics: administration, child protective service workers, disabilities, ethical issues, Federal training, law enforcement, medical personnel, mental health providers, prosecution, and victim service workers. Papers included in the manual address the following topics: adult sex offender treatment issues, intervention for children and partners, confirmation of the tunnel stories of the McMartin children, a developmental approach to children's drawing, and the dilemmas of child protection for dissociated child victims. Other papers presented focus on the treatment of the hidden child, the treatment of juvenile sex offenders, high-risk infants, prosecution issues with difficult witnesses, trial skills for prosecuting attorneys, the treatment of the adult survivor of sexual abuse, investigation and early intervention with mothers of sexually abused children, the prosecution of cases that involve developmentally disabled victims, and interviewing skills to use with survivors who have developmental and communication disabilities.
